Brief
Information
Turkish Cypriot Association Of University Women is
an Turkish Cypriot NGO based in north Cyprus and working
on women and gender issues. It was established in
April 1991, mainly aiming to promote understanding
and friendship among the university women, to promote
cooperative work, to encourage participation of women
in solving of problems arise at all levels of life,
to empower and enable women to be come influential
and effective in every field and all levels of public
life, and to take active role in conservation of environmental
and historical assets.
The Turkish Cypriot Association of University Women
is associate member of IFUW, International Federation
of University Women based in Switzerland
Adoption of Convention On The Elimination Of All Forms
Of Discrimination Against Women (Cedaw) without any
reservation and approval of the new family law in
parliament are the results of hardworking towards
these aims. Integration with global society and developing
bi-communal understanding and relations are two other
goals, which we are working towards.

Budget
Resources
The income of the Associations arises from: Membership
fees, Income obtained through sales of things Funds
obtained on the basis of projects of the Association
Contributions and gifts from its members, donations
from the public sector and private sector.

Organisational
Structure
The Organs of the Turkish Cypriot Association of Women
are
1. The General Assembly- The General Assembly
is the highest authority of the Association which
decides on policy and is open to all members
2. The Board of Officers - The Board of Officers
is the organ of executive decisions of the Association
. The members of the Board of Officers are elected
by the general assembly for a period of 2 years. No
member, including the president shall serve for more
than two consecutive terms
3. Board of Inspection - The Board of Inspection
is responsible for inspecting all financial and other
activities of the Association.
4. Honorary Committee. -The Honorary Committee
is responsible for dealing with any dispute between
members or between any member and the Board of Officers.
Coordinator Of International Relations - CIR
- A active member shall be elected by the General
Assembly as Coordinator for International Relations
( CIR) for a term not normally exceeding four years
she is responsible for stimulating interest in international
relations and for cooperating with the other national
federations and associations and shall be the liaison
between the Association and IFUW Headquarters.
Committees - The General Assembly shall establish
standing committees as may be required, elect their
members and shall lay down their terms of reference
Special committees may be established as may be required
and members appointed to them by the General Assembly
and the Board of Officers. In June 2001 , the General
Assembly established ,
- Committee of Education and Fellowship,
- Committee of Projects, Environment,
- Committee of Public Relations and Members, Committee
of Finance and
- Committee of International Relations.
Board of Officers has appointed one of its own members
to serve on each of these standing committee.
Staff - Currently the Association has three
paid staff, one project coordinator for two UNDP/UNOPS
funded project and two librarians.
